Empowering Kids One Pitch at a Time

Beginning in May and running through November each year, the Foundation hosts, co-hosts, or sponsors many events where we raise funds not only for our goals, but for many of our partner organizations in the community. Our EG29 events are professionally planned and executed; and are designed to be engaging, entertaining, and sure fire fun for the entire family!

Our goal is to never have our donor base ‘feel like’ they are at a fundraiser; but to provide a tangible experience, and allow them the transparency to see exactly how their contributions are going to benefit the children of our community!

Pre-game ceremonies include:

  • Presentation of the Colors by the South Kitsap NJROTC Cadets

  • National Anthem by the SKHS Choir (2016); and the Peninsula Youth Orchestra (2017)

  • Presentation of the POW/MIA Missing Man Ceremony by Bremerton VFW Post #239

  • Keynote address by State Representative Jesse L. Young

This event is proudly sponsored each year by the Movement Mortgage Corporation.

Touching Lives...

Held each November in honor of the anniversary of Coach Goodwin’s passing, this event brings together friends, family, and former players and coaches of several generations. In past years this event has been graciously sponsored by our dear friends at Minder Meats, the Cheyney Family, and the Columbia Hospitality Group.

Following dinner is a TOP-NOTCH silent and live auction featuring some amazing donations from local businesses and ‘Friends of the Foundation’. Past auctions with our partners at the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable (KAR) (Spring of 2014) have included appearances by Seattle Mariner (and Elton Goodwin alum) Willie Bloomquist, U.S. Olympian Bobsledder Bree Schaff; and have included items such as autographed memorabilia from these great stars, as well as All-Star Mariners Felix Hernandez and Robinson Cano.

We are blessed to live in such a vibrant, and socially active community; and throughout Spring & Summer our downtown waterfront comes alive with dozens of events supporting local non-profits, businesses, and civic organizations. Beginning in May with the Kitsap Harbor Festival, and wrapping up in August with the world class “Cruz” car show, these events bring hundreds of thousands of visitors to our community each year, and are critical to our economic development. t is through events such as these, that we are able to remain so close with our community, our donor base, and are able to support our amazing partner organizations such as Rotary, Fathoms, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Port Orchard Bay Street Association; all of whom are working to build a stronger South Kitsap!

Next time you’re in town for one of these wonderful events, be sure to stop by the EG29 booth!

Tribute To Our Troops

With such close proximity to local military installations, the South Kitsap community has always enjoyed a close, and supportive relationship with our Armed Forces.  Created in 2015 to honor these brave men and women, Tribute to Our Troops is our annual high school double header played at Cheyney Stadium in Tacoma, WA between South Kitsap HS and Gig Harbor HS.  Each team is issued special edition camouflage print jerseys; the backs of which is embroidered with the Name and Rank of a U.S. Troop that each player and coach have chosen to honor.  Following the games, the families of these Troops join us at home plate for a special on-field ceremony where one by one each player and coach steps forward, removes their game jersey, and presents it to the family members of each Troop.

Although not much of a golfer, Elton was always a fan of getting together with old friends to tell a few stories, and have a whole lot of laughs.  Whether this was on a baseball diamond, on a fishing boat, or around a campfire, it made no difference to him.  That is what this Golf Tournament is all about.  Held in 2016 at Horseshoe Lake GC, and in 2017 at McCormick Woods GC, this annual June event has quickly grown into one of the most popular golf tournaments on the peninsula.

Festivities include a putting contest, long drive contests, KP contests, and not one, but TWO hole-in-one contests with chances to win brand new cars from Grey Chevrolet and South Tacoma Honda!  Following the tournament is an awards ceremony and BBQ dinner sponsored by Minder Meats.

Keep your ears open for registration details each April – this tournament fills up fast!

"It was my good fortune to know and work with Elton for 40 years. He showed a love for those around him that made him truly standout. Whether it was his special needs students or his baseball players his conversations ended with "I love you man". A very hardworking person who embraced life to the fullest. Whether it was hunting ,fishing, wood cutting or coaching, he gave it his all."
Coach Don Smith

"The thing about coaching kids is that they have to like you before they'll play for you."
